great overall lens
replaced my 18-200 & 70-300 lenses when I upgraded to D800. Very versite. Barrels do not creep (annoying problem w/the 70-300), no barrel wobble (prob w/70-300; one replaced under warrenty). Some internat distortion, but limited.
Use for industrial, landscapes, grandkids -- covers a wide range of applications.
Very nice to have a single stable, versitile lens when hicking or cllmbing. No need to change out lenses & can carry mounted in a single small bag v pack with several lenses.
Wish was nano coated, but otherwise close to perfect.
Been shooting w/Nikon bodies & glass since 1975. was concerned glass made in Thailand -- proved to be false concern. Quality appears to be is good as before.
Very happy with product.

Amazing Lens !
Bought this to replace 18-55 & 55-200. This lens has amazing Zoom capacity (best in market). I was on a trip to Florida and at least 3 Nikon owners were impressed with this lens. It captures awesome landscape pictures and close-ups of wild life. Very versatile lens.
I am just happy to be able to do everything with 1 lens and not required to interchange lenses as before.
This is the future !!

Smart All Around Lens
I did not have very high expectations for a lens with this range. It takes a few practice shots to figure out ISO and Aperture combinations. The results were very good, pretty sharp pictures throughout the range with good saturation and contrast on a cloudy day. I was a bit taken back by the results. . Shoot a flower at 300 mm and you'll see defects that could not be seen with the human eye. The motor is extremely quite and focus is pretty fast. The VRII system is a real benefit for low light shots on cloudy days.
The lens is a bit heavy in weight and price wise but absolutely worth it as an all around lens. My camera is a D-7000. Needless to say, I am very satisfied with the performance.

FINALLY ! A LENS THAT DOES IT ALL AND KEEPS TRUE NIKON QUALITY !
Although I own several Nikon cameras and many Nikon lenses (including five 2.8 Pro models), I am by no means a professional. I started in photography fifty years ago and have formitable knowledge of both film and digital media. For me, as for many, super-zooms always meant a very substantial trade-off in image quality other than the particular "sweet-spot" of the lens. With this 18-300 mm VR zoom, Nikon has finally given us "more demanding" old camera guys a lens that takes us in DX lingo from 27mm to 450mm with first class resolution and image quality across the board and no need to hunt for its "sweet-spot". Wether you are traveling, attending an athletic event, or just walking the streets for fun, this great lens can supply the focal length you need by simply twisting your wrist and nailing the shutter. I have taken about 400 photos with it so far across its entire focal length and NONE have been the soft or displeasing in any way. I am not an easy person to please where image quality is concerned, so trust me, you will love this lens.

Its not the best but Perfect for Beginners
As a begginer, this lens is a whole lot better than my 18-105, not just for the range but for the sharpness as well.
